Becoming The Best We Can Be

The School Day

The school day starts at 8:30am.

The school day ends at 3:00pm.

The total time in school in a typical week amounts to 32 hours and 30 minutes.

Mallards Nursery morning session starts at 8:30am.

Mallards Nursery afternoon session starts at 12:00pm.

Our school day starts when our gates open at 8:30am.

Teachers will welcome children in through their gate. It's important that each child can have a warm welcome from their teacher and that their teacher can see them in safely.  We kindly ask that morning drop off isn't used as a time to chat to teachers. Teachers are available at the gate at the end of the day to answer any questions or to pass on any messages, for anything urgent, it's best to liaise with the school office.

Pupils in Key Stage One (Year 1 and 2) usually have a planned fifteen minute break during the morning, during which time they are provided with free fruit and vegetables.

Lunch is then staggered for each year group between 11:30am and 1:30pm. For children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, this includes 30 minutes in the hall to eat lunch and 30 minutes outdoor play.

Aside from this, school staff use the day as flexibly as possible to meet the learning objectives they have planned. Children would typically have an hour each for English and Maths, plus a Phonics session (for Reception and Key Stage One children), each day, but staff have flexibility in timetabling these to make the most of children’s learning time.

Our school day ends for all children at 3:00pm, at which time staff offer a range of after-school activities.  Details of these are provided to parents.
